Council decisions and reports guide

3. Writing your report using the correct template

Reports for Corporate Leadership Team (CLT)

Not all reports need to go to CLT, this should be discussed and agreed with your Executive Director/Director using the following criteria:

  • It is a significant decision report with substantial financial, legal, or reputational risk and implications.
  • There are substantial financial implications of the report.
  • The subject of the report is cross-cutting and impacts multiple directorates/services.
  • It provides an opportunity for strategic input and direction from CLT.
  • It is politically controversial and/or poses a reputational risk to the council.
  • There is a direct impact on staff.

Meeting Frequency Owners (MS Word, 85KB)

You must complete the following template for all CLT reports. If your report relates to a committee or full council decision and is rated amber or red, you may also need to submit the committee decision report, you should check this with your Executive Director/Director.

Committee or Full Council Report

You must use the Report Management System to write reports for Committee or Full Council. To do this, visit the report management system, scroll down and click on the 'work to do' link at the bottom Left of the screen to gain access. You will be asked for your username and password. Type ourcheshire\YOURUSERNAME and your usual password.

There are two types of report templates

  • Decision report - should be used for all reports intended for committee or council decision
  • Briefing report - should be used for briefings / update reports to informal committee meetings - not for use at any formal committees .

The briefing process may differ between the different committees. Discuss the briefing for your report with the relevant Lead Director and/or designated Committee Clerk for each committee.

You need to submit your final approved report to Democratic Services through the report management system at least 7 days before the date of the meeting.
