Web standards guide

Overview

If you supply content for publication on the Cheshire East website or intranet (centranet) it must comply with our web standards, style guide, and tone of voice. This includes web pages, forms, applications, documents and images.

We are happy to work with you to improve the accessibility and usability of your content or to signpost you to other resources.

Why we follow standards

By working to a clear set of standards, we ensure:

  • Consistency: Ensures a uniform tone, style, and structure across all web pages, making the content easy to follow and navigate.
  • Accessibility: Promotes inclusivity by meeting guidelines for users with disabilities, such as screen reader compatibility and proper contrast ratios.
  • User experience (UX): Enhances readability, clarity, and usability, ensuring that content is engaging and easy to comprehend.
  • SEO optimization: Improves search engine rankings by following best practices for content structure, keyword usage, and metadata.
  • Legal compliance: Helps ensure adherence to legal requirements, such as copyright laws and privacy regulations.

We're replacing the web standards and style guide with a new web standards A to Z. All the content from the original documents is now included in the updated guidance. You might notice some duplication while we finish updating and streamling the information.

  • Style guide (PDF, 283KB) - A to Z reference guide including use of capitalisation and FAQs, and presentation of dates and contact details.

The content strategies set out how we create and deliver digital content:
