Shared parental leave

Shared parental leave (SPL) allows parents to share a mother’s remaining maternity or an adopter’s leave and pay.

There are specific criteria for the 'Mother' and the 'Partner' to determine if they are eligible. For full details, see the shared parental leave policy and procedure (MS Word, 90KB).

Apply for shared parental leave

This is a new right and can be complex so if you are considering taking shared parental leave you should discuss the options with your manager and / or HR representative at the earliest appropriate opportunity.

You will need to confirm your eligibility by supplying the following to your manager:

  1. notice of shared parental leave form (MS Word, 54KB). Completed, and signed by both parents
  2. a copy of the child’s birth certificate or adoption certificate. If the child has not yet been born, a copy of the MATB1 certificate
