Ordinary parental leave

Ordinary parental leave is unpaid time off to care for a child. You can take up to 18 weeks of unpaid leave for each eligible child. 

You can take this leave if you:

  • have worked for us for at least 1 year
  • are the child’s parent, guardian or adoptive parent
  • have or expect to have parental responsibility
  • the child is under 18

You can use this entitlement once per child, from birth until their 18th birthday. It does not renew each year.

Ordinary parental leave is separate from shared parental leave and is not affected by it.
