Dealing with bereavement

We understand that losing someone close to you is one of life’s most difficult experiences. As a council, we’re here to support you.

You can speak to your line manager or colleagues, or contact the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for free, confidential support at any time. Call 0800 1116 387 and quote ‘Cheshire East’.

If you need time off

If someone close to you has died and you can’t come to work, call your line manager as soon as you can. This helps us understand your situation and offer the right support.

Bereavement leave

Our policies set out your entitlement to bereavement leave. We know grief affects everyone differently, so your manager may use their discretion to offer additional support.
