Apply to work flexibly
From the first day of employment, you have the statutory right to request flexible working. Under the statutory procedure, you can make 2 requests in every 12-month period. If you have submitted a flexible working request, you must wait until that one has been considered and any appeal has been dealt with, before submitting another.
Once you have submitted your flexible working request, it will be dealt with as soon as possible. However, all requests must be dealt with within 2 months, from receipt of the request to notification of any appeal decision. The timescales may be extended where this is mutually agreed.
For full details, refer to the council’s procedure for requesting flexible working (PDF, 160KB).
Types of flexible working
The procedure offers you the right to ask for changes to one or more of the following for any reason:
- the number of hours or weeks worked, for example - part time, term-time working and job share
- the times of work, for example - annualised hours, changes to start and finish times; and/or
- the place of work, for example - working style (hybrid or fixed base working)
Working compressed hours is another flexible working option. This allows you to work your total number of contractual hours over fewer working days with no reduction in pay. For more information, see guidance on compressed working (MS Word, 80KB).
How to apply
