Revenue budget 2024/25

The documents presented here provide Councillors and officers with further analysis of the Council’s budgets for 2024/25. The information provides the initial position, as at 26 March 2024, at a more granular level for each directorate’s budgets than has previously been made available in the Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS). This analysis has been made possible following work by the finance team to develop and exploit reporting functionality in the Unit4 system.

As the financial year progresses, the budget information will be updated to take account of any changes in budgets that have been effected since the MTFS was approved in February 2024. Such changes will include, for example, supplementary revenue budget estimates, fully funded by new grants that have been allocated to the Council, or re-alignments of social care budgets to reflect the changing nature of care packages.

Budget analysis documents

The budget analyses are shown for each directorate, along with a summary for the Council. Budgets are classified over several types of expenditure, including employees, premises, and supplies and services.

You will note a few instances of ‘credit’ (negative number) items within expenditure classifications. This relates to budget items which are not real external income, but are either internal ‘contributions to costs’ – for example, contributions to the costs of particular Services, from Dedicated Schools Grant or Public Health budgets – or approved  MTFS savings items to be delivered.

Detailed budget analysis

If you need a further level of analysis, the documents below provide information both to a ‘lower level’ of Service area and also by types of expenditure and income. These figures were also taken from the system as of 26 March 2024. Budget item lines are rounded to the nearest £1,000 so where £0s are shown, this means that budget values are less than £500.
